One Messianic’s Perceptions of Hanukkah Part 2

Shabbat Shalom dear Saints in Training! And a blessed happy Hanukkah to all. This 25th day of the 9th month marks a perpetual celebration of the ‘re-dedication of the Temple under the leadership of Judas Maccabee. This most auspicious story of reverence and Faith and unwavering bravery is found in 1 Maccabees chapter 4: Chapter 4:52-Now on the five and twentieth day of the ninth month, which is …called the month of Casleu, in the hundred forty and eighth year, they rose up betimes in the morning, (53) and offered sacrifice according to the law upon the new altar of burnt offering, which they had made. (56) And so they kept the dedication of the alter eight days and offered burnt offering s with gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of DELIVERANCE and praise. (59) Moreover Judas and his brethren with the whole congregation of Israel ordained, that the days of the dedication of the alter should be kept in their season from year to year by the space of eight days, from the five and twentieth day of the month of Casleu, with mirth and gladness. This is the 25th day of the ninth month, Hanukkah, 6013 FC (from creation). Our Lord and Saviour celebrated this holiday. It is here that He proclaimed to be the Light of the world. Hannukkah is also known as the Feast of Dedication and the Feast of Lights. Although not one of the 7 holy days mandated to be followed by Israel (we are spiritual Israel), it is a festival that our Master celebrated and thus I will do likewise. I believe it is a choice each messianic must make for themselves. Whatever you choose to do dear friend, enjoy, rejoice, and be most blessed in Yehovah.
